One without the other

1 minute read

Here are some things I'm sure we all want:

  • To cook without dirty dishes.
  • To lose weight without changing my diet or exercising.
  • To learn a new language without studying or practicing.
  • To save money without cutting expenses or working more hours.

And some things that would be nice to have at work.

  • To understand our customers, without talking to them.
  • Clean, maintainable code without code reviews and refactoring.
  • Accurate user insights without conducting user research interviews.
  • Performant software without profiling and optimisation efforts.
  • A seamless user experience without iterative design and prototyping.
  • Comprehensive test coverage without writing detailed test cases.
  • Predictable software delivery without any planning or retrospectives.

Gosh, wouldn't these be nice!

But you can't have one without the other.

So then why would you think you can have a fully accessible website without investing any time in proper design, semantic markup and testing with users with disabilities?

Did you enjoy this bite-sized message?

I send out short emails like this every day to help you gain a fresh perspective on accessibility and understand it without the jargon, so you can build more robust products that everyone can use, including people with disabilities.
