Where to focus

1 minute read

You could obsess over WCAG compliance checklists, or you could genuinely care about solving real user accessibility challenges.

You could chase perfect automated test scores, or you could invest time in hands-on, manual usability testing that reveals actual user experiences.

You could get bogged down in technical compliance documentation, or you could spend that energy understanding how people with different abilities actually interact with your website.

You could treat accessibility as a checkbox exercise to be conformant, or you could see it as an opportunity to create something that works better for everyone.

Most of the time, one doesn't exclude the other. But there's one way you're sure to be conformant, if that's your goal.

Focus on doing the right things and the conformance will take care of itself.
